Product precautions
Kocon pedestals are crafted from Japanese cedar sourced domestically in Japan.
We embrace the natural character of the wood—including knots, minor cracks or chips, wavering or straight grain lines, and variations in color tone—as expressions of individuality, and actively incorporate these features into our products.
・Please note that, except for limited sales at physical stores or special events, customers cannot select specific grain patterns when placing an order.
・Returns or exchanges based on grain pattern or color tone are not accepted.
The tabletop is composed of cedar tiles cut along the growth rings and arranged in a mosaic-like pattern, with elastic tile grout applied between them.
This design choice is both aesthetic and functional, helping to disperse the stress caused by natural shrinkage of the wood due to changes in humidity.
Fine cracks may appear on the surface of the wood or in the joints as a result of shipping conditions or the environment in which the pedestal is used.
・These surface cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the piece.
・Please avoid placing the pedestal in areas subject to significant fluctuations in humidity or temperature, such as near windows or directly beneath air conditioners.
・Sudden drying or excessive moisture may result in surface cracks or subtle changes in appearance.
・If cracks become noticeable, gently rub a semi-solid type of store-bought beeswax into the surface.
The tabletop is finished with a blend of natural oil and beeswax, creating a water-resistant surface that helps protect against everyday moisture and stains. However, it is not waterproof.
Please avoid placing the pedestal in areas where it may be exposed to constant water. Any water spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent staining.
・Exposure to substances such as vinegar, baking soda, or bleach may cause discoloration.
・For routine care, we recommend dusting or wiping with a dry or well-wrung damp cloth.
・Repeated cleaning with alcohol-based products may gradually wear away the finish and reduce its natural sheen.
・As part of maintenance, applying a thin layer of store-bought beeswax can help restore luster and enhance resistance to stains—feel free to consider this depending on your usage.
